Industrious midfielder, Mothusi Cooper and goalkeeper, Goitseone Phoko have parted ways with league side Gaborone United following the expiry of their contracts.

Cooper joined GU at the beginning of the season and did not disappoint as he led the Reds to the Orange FA Cup triumph. The diminutive midfielder was voted player of the tournament.

However, he will not be wearing the red and white of GU with a rumoured move to South African side, Cape Town Spurs, on the cards. GU confirmed in a statement, that the dreadlocked star had left the club.

"This comes after his contract elapsed and the player stated that he would like to pursue his career elsewhere. "We would like to send our heartfelt gratitude to Cooper for his contribution and commitment during his stay at the club," the club stated. Phoko has been a long-serving servant for the Reds and is linked with a move to Jwaneng Galaxy. "After over a decade, Gaborone United have parted ways with goalkeeper Goitseone 'Chichima' Phoko today. This comes after both parties failed to agree on a new deal," the club said.

"The club would like to thank Phoko for his commitment over the years even when it was unfashionable to do so. He leaves the club on the back of three consecutive Orange FA Cup triumphs and League title," the statement adds. Phoko thanked GU for the opportunity to represent the Reds. "It's been a beautiful journey and I will always remain indebted to the club. I became a household name because of GU. I remember when I first came here like it was yesterday. Thank you everyone at the Club for the love you have given me over the years," he said.
