First Lady Neo Masisi is the chief walker for the Mascom Batanani Walk, which is set for August 12 at the Francistown Council Stadium.

Masisi is a passionate advocate for health and wellness, and according to a statement from Mascom, her participation in the walk will inspire and motivate participants from all walks of life. “Her dedication to promoting an active lifestyle and fostering a sense of unity aligns perfectly with the spirit of Batanani,” the statement reads.

The event serves as an important platform that highlights the significance of unity and collaboration in building a stronger and more vibrant society. “We invite Batswana, residents of Francistown and individuals from across the country to join us at this extraordinary event,” the statement reads.

“In the true spirit of Batanani, this is a call to stand united by walking or contributing by donating to a great cause. Giving back is a fundamental value in our Setswana culture. Through this walk, we aspire to evoke and celebrate the spirit of giving and community development.

As Mascom, this is embedded in our purpose of powerful connections that inspire change. This we drive through our values of fun, integrity, innovation, service excellence, teamwork, and open and effective communication,” said Mascom CEO, Dzene Makhwade-Seboni. Mascom Batanani Walk was launched in 2019 to drive positive change in society. In its fifth year, the walk is one of the most anticipated charity events in Botswana.

This year, Batanani Walk will feature 15km, 10km, and 5km events and bring together people from all walks of life for a good cause. Batanani means unity and celebrates Batswana’s spirit of supporting each other for the good of the community. Since its inception, Mascom Batanani Walk has supported the following organisations: Gender Based Violence (Botswana Police Women’s Wing, Francistown), Advocating for Children’s Rights Protection (SOS Village, Francistown), Mental Health (Jubilee Hospital Psychiatric Unit, Francistown), Supporting the Deaf (Centre for Deaf Education, Francistown), Drugs and Substance Abuse (BOSASNET) in successive years since 2019.

“This year’s walk themed, ‘Drugs and Substance Abuse’ is aimed at supporting and sensitising Batswana on drugs and substance abuse and bring light to key challenges and take us a step closer to building a drug-free community,” Mascom said through a statement. The registration fee for Batanani Walk is P200 and all proceeds will be donated to BOSASNET.
