Billiards Confederation to send four players to Commonwealth champs

Botswana National team players will be rubbing shoulders with the best billiards players of the world in Mauritius from July 2 to July 6.

Botswana Billiards Confederation (BBC) interim president and secretary general, Marang Morolong explained that the team comprises Boineelo 'Kizza' Moleofi from Kopong village,who just recently participated in a lucrative event in China less a month back. She will be participating in the same discipline, Heyball as will her male counterpart, Tlamelo Maphanyane from Serowe who will also serve as the team captain. Katlego 'Millie' Lathang from Bobonong and Oduetse 'Madudu' Rasebeka from Ramotswa will represent the blue, black in white in the Blackball billiards discipline.

Morolong also highlighted that the event is the first of its kind with prestigious Commonwealth medals up for grabs with Billiards also targeting a slot in the 2032 Olympic games. World renowned players such as former World Champion, Nzwana 'Senzo' Gumede, Chris Melling, Kelvin Fikoti and Chandiga Ceaser are expected to grace the event to add to their illustrious careers.

Disa Lebekwe, vice President Technical for Botswana Billiards also said that despite the compliance issues with the Registrar of Societies, Botswana Billiards Confederation continues to give hope for the sport with continuous ground work and endless opportunities for the players abroad. He insists that preparations are ongoing for the upcoming 2025 All Africa Billiards Championships with the team aiming to improve on their last performances of silver and fourth position in the women and men's category respectively.
