Though Matebele controlled the match and put Rollers on the backfoot, they failed to deliver the killer punches when they got opportunities. They were predictably punished by a more efficient Rollers. Manqoba Ngwenya gave Rollers the lead on the stroke of halftime with a long-range shot that the entire BDF rearguard thought was off target. Goalkeeper, Takudzwa Ndoro should have equalised in the 80th minute, but Mwampole Masule comfortably dealt with his spot kick. Rollers duly punished the terrible miss eight minutes later when Jerome Loius converted a penalty. Thato Ogopotse pulled one back for BDF in the 90th minute.
The two sides started the match on a high note, launching attack after attack. BDF had the first attempt at goal in the third minute when Mokgathi Mokgathi tested Masule. Four minutes later, the BDF defence had to deal with Kenanao Kgetholetsile's attempt. In the second stanza, BDF pushed for the equaliser but found Masule in an uncompromising mood. BDF coach, Elijah Chikwanda told Sport Monitor after the match that luck was not on their side on the day as they missed many scoring chances. He said it was unfortunate that they missed a penalty. He felt that BDF had a chance to win the match and they just have to blame themselves. "The substitutions that I made were meant to add power upfront. I needed someone who could get us a goal. I think we played better than Rollers," said Chikwanda.
