SELEBI-PHIKWE: Nico United chairperson, Mothusi Taolo says the club needs to re-brand in order to remain visible and relevant following disturbing reports that the club only has 166 paid up members.

Speaking at the team’s annual general meeting held here last weekend, Taolo said the team management would engage professionals to develop the club’s website, adding that publicity was the missing link in their quest for improved public image. He added that the team’s social media platforms also needed to be improved.

Taolo said branches should be formed in Selebi- Phikwe and surrounding areas to help in the running of the club.

“Last season we were not able to form the branches because we concentrated much on improving the team’s results. We should have branches that will help in the running of the club like we see some clubs doing,” he said.

The chairperson urged the team supporters to register as members of the club, stating that currently there are 166 members who subscribe every month.

“The club has only 166 members who pay a subscription fee of P25 per month. We have to increase the number of the members in the club.  This number shows that we are not doing well in terms of membership,” he said.

Taolo also said the club is still exploring ways in which supporters could benefit from their club membership. He urged supporters to come up with strategies of improving membership. The supporters in turn agreed to pay P200 joining fee. They also advised management to increase the subscription fee as this would help the club make more money.

The Nico United management has also drafted a 30page constitution as an amendment to the old document, which only had two pages.

“We have been operating with a two paged constitution, but we have now managed to draft a 30 paged document,” he said. The club has also come up with a five-year strategic plan.

In other developments, the team coach, Wesley Mondo’s contract has been extended by a year. Nico will also strengthen the team with two additional goalkeepers, two defenders, a midfielder and two strikers. Mondo has already provided the management with his wish list, with some of the players still under contract at their clubs.Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng was elected as the new Public Relations Officer, while Oaitse Oitsile who has been serving as an additional committee member is the new treasurer. They take over from Kgakgamatso Moreri and Emily Mosotho respectively, who both made it clear that they would not continue in their positions.

Gabotepele Shane Koontse takes over as an additional member.
