Township Rollers defender received two awards yesterday

Township Rollers centre back, Simisane Mathumo says he is excited that his performances last season had not gone unnoticed. Mathumo, who was instrumental in helping his side defend the league title last season, was yesterday named as the player of the season at the Football Union of Botswana (FUB) awards ceremony held in Gaborone.

He walked away with P10,000 after getting the vote of confidence from his fellow players. He was also named in the team of the season that was also voted by fellow professional players. Mathumo could not hide his excitement and sent gratitude towards FUB and his colleagues for the support and encouragement. He said it is not easy for a player to win three awards in a season because the competition is usually tight.

“I feel grateful to have made it this far. I cannot say I was expecting the two awards because the competition was too tight last season,” Mathumo said. “However, it brings joy to me because I had a very good 2016/2017 season. The awards mean a lot to me. They act as a catalyst to each and every player to perform at his level best.”
