Indoor shift pays dividends for volleyball

Volleyball is reaping the rewards from shifting from open to indoor courts. Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president (technical), George Keotsene has said standards of play have improved considerably since they made the switch. He said players are now free to express themselves away from weather elements often encountered under open courts.

At the beginning of the season, the BVF committed to playing games indoors. Keotsene said only two matches were played in open courts. He said although it is early days, the quality of play has improved. Clubs are expected to reinforce their squads when the transfer window opens after this weekend’s matches. It has, however, not been decided when the second round will start. There are four outstanding fixtures in the men’s league due to the uncertainty over Diphatsa’s ownership.

The military club’s fate hung in limbo for sometime after their sponsors, Botswana Defence Force (BDF) threatened to withdraw. However, BDF has since backtracked, pledging to assist the club until the end of the season. On Saturday Diphatsa play two matches against Itekeng and Kutlwano while BDF plays Magstimela and Diphatsa on Sunday.
