Fans behind design of new Zebras kit BFA

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has said the new Zebras kit’s design was inspired by submissions from fans.

This followed a competition by the BFA inviting local designers to submit ideas for the new kit. On Wednesday, in a joint statement with the technical sponsor, Umbro, the BFA said the 2021-2022 strips’ designs were inspired by the submissions from the fans. The new strips sparked mixed reactions from fans, with many comments arguing that it does not have a ‘local feel’.

“Umbro South Africa and the Botswana Football Association are pleased to present the 2021-2022 home, away and alternate kits of the Botswana national teams. Unlike previous seasons, all three jersey designs were inspired by fan submissions and incorporate various elements of Botswana iconography,” the statement reads. “This is the second kit instalment since the two parties’ long-term partnership signed in 2019. On Wednesday the BFA launched the new home, away and third strips through their social media platforms. The strips carry a modern sense of fashion as the home jersey features black stripes against a background of traditional sky blue, capped with white sleeves – a visual reimagining of the Botswana flag. The away kit is strikingly simple in its minimalism, teaming black horizontal stripes with a crisp white base.
