FRANCISTOWN: The second edition of Dr Kim's Memorial Invitational Golf Cup will be held on July 31. The organisers have promised a bigger event to be attended by bikers from South Africa.

The tournament will be held at the Francistown Golf Course in memory of a Korean doctor, Kim, who lived in the city. His son Kina Kim, who went to school at Mater Spei College and is now a successful businessman in South Africa is bankrolling the event. Last year's tournament in November attracted a host of professional, amateur and young golfers.

One of the organisers, Dave Bestman, said this year's proceedings will start with a show by musician Shanti Lo at the Francistown Golf Club followed by the registration of players. The defending champion is Deon Frost. Lions Club will be the beneficiary of proceeds from the tournament. Last year, Frost was the winner with a score of 146 while second-placed Lekgoa and Shane Granger had 153 each in the P150,000 two-day tournament. Among top golfers who braved the sweltering summer heat to take part in the competition last year were Mpho Kelosiwang, Phenyo Lekgoa, Moses Chinhengo, Oniel Mokgosi, Nfila brothers Ishmael and Emmanuel and Peter Podise.
