Botswana has sent 14 athletes to the sixth Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Nassau, Bahmas from July 18 to 23. The team leaves today and former boxer, Lechadzani ‘Master’ Luza is the Chef de Mission.

Luza said they are embarking on a big mission, which is to compete and bring home medals to promote the future of sport in the country. “The athletes have been involved in preparations and are ready to face the best in the world. The team consists of athletes who have been performing and achieving from their latest competitions and the coaches have been doing a great job in training them so that they carry their strength to the competitions,” Luza said.

He further noted that the experience that the athletes would be exposed to would give them motivation. The team is made up of athletes from swimming, boxing, athletics and cycling and Luza believes the performance of the team would also raise awareness for a particular sporting codes in Botswana like what netball has done during the ongoing 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Gaborone.
