BBF selects national team

The Botswana Bridge Federation (BBF) is preparing a shortlist of players who will represent the country in the international events following the Open Pairs tournament at the University of Botswana on Saturday.

From the tournament, BBF will select players to fly Botswana's flag at the South African Bridge competition next month and the African Bridge Championships in Reunion in May. BBF spokesperson Thatayotlhe Maele told Sport Monitor yesterday that they are processing the shortlist and if possible they will have a camp or trials to select the final team of eight. She said they keep records of players' performances in training and tournaments to help in the selection of the national team.

Meanwhile the federation is still waiting to hear from Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) how many teams will be going to South Africa. Meanwhile, the weekend Open Pairs tournament was a 15-round event contested by about 58 players. The contestants included players from two senior schools and five junior schools.
