Unruly students plague Tlogatloga CJSS

The headteacher of Tlogatloga Community Junior Secondary School in Gaborone, Ruth Matlhape, has complained of gangsterism, vandalism, fighting, bullying, bringing unauthorised equipment like laptops and cell phones to school and possession of and indulgence in drugs.

Speaking at a prize giving ceremony on Friday, Matlhape said the pastoral department is inundated with complaints of "behaviour that is a menace to both victims and members of the community. Consequently, pastoral teachers spend lots of time in offices resolving cases while they should be in classrooms teaching," Matlhape said.

She told parents that some students deliberately do not wear prescribed uniform."Uniform is a form of identity and it instills a sense of belonging in children and it cultivates discipline and seriousness in students towards their core business," said Matlhape.
