GANTSI: An 18-year-old man has been charged with arson after burning his uncle's house and causing P17,000 in damages on New Year’s Day.

Gantsi station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone, said in the incident that occurred in Dikara settlement, a few kilometres from the village, the suspect started by harassing his girlfriend's father over a solar panel.

"It seems the fight erupted over solar panel. The suspect and his girlfriend's father were fighting over it and the suspect ended up cutting it into pieces," he said.

This upset the girlfriend's father who then called the suspect's uncle. Upon arriving the uncle punished the teenager for misbehaving by beating him.

"The suspect then left them hurling insults and went straight to his uncle’s house and burned it to ashes,” the station commander said.

The suspect will appear before the Gantsi Magistrate Court tomorrow.
