FRANCISTOWN: Despite many pundits predicting that the outgoing Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Wynter Mmolotsi will win this year’s general elections convincingly, his competitor Vain Mamela holds a divergent view.

Mmolotsi has endeared himself to voters over the year and was viewed as a hard worker in the last Parliament which has created an impression that he may earn another five-year term in the National Assembly. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) candidate Mamela believes that the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) will not make an impact at this year’s general elections in Francistown South. In fact the dynamics do not favour the BDP too according to the BCP firebrand. Instead, Mamela believes that he is the favourite and predicts that the BCP will make a telling impact at the general elections due in a little more than two weeks. Mamela was speaking at a lowly attended BCP rally on Friday late afternoon at Chedu Choga grounds.

“I keep hearing some people saying that Mmolotsi will win the elections, but that is just talk. The numbers and dynamics in the constituency do not favour him at all. Not all the people have moved with Wynter when he left the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). The split in the BDP that resulted in the formation of the BMD will benefit the BCP because for us we have been relatively stable in the constituency over the years.
