Security boss in court for failure to pay employee

FRANCISTOWN: The owner of Snatch Security in Francistown appeared before Magistrate Dumisani Bagopi last Thursday on three counts of failure to pay his employee.

Peter Matambo (39) is alleged to have failed to pay the sum of P567 to his employee, Onalenna Maweni being severance benefit due to her by virtue of termination of employment on April 30, 2012.Matambo was also charged for failing to pay Maweni the sum of P850 being her leave pay.  The third count was failure to pay the complainant the sum of P806.40, her pay for off days.Matambo, who appeared in person, told the court that his company could have long paid the complainant but they could not find her.  He requested that he be given some time to meet the complainant so that he can pay her all the outstanding monies.

Bagopi granted Matambo bail on conditions that he pays P1,000 cash, provides two sureties worth P200 each as well as that he does not interfere with state witnesses.  He was also told to report to Central Police Station on Monday and Friday during working hours and to attend court every time he is needed. The trial date was set for June 21, 2013.  Constable Oteng Selalame represented the state in the matter.
