Phase 2 survivor to take the stand

The trial in a case in which the only survivor in the infamous Phase 2 shoot out took off this morning before the Extension 2 Magistrate's Court and in the next mention the accused person will take the witness box.

Fort he first time court will hear from the only survivor of the shoot out on what happened on the day, well at least partly as she is expected to address the court on how the police obtained her confession.

Tsaone Reboeleng appeared before court where her charge sheet was read out to her. Reboeleng faces a single charge of robbery.

According to the state, Reboeleng and 10 others not before the court acted together to steal P 986, 470 pula from a cash in transit Security Systems vehicle. Reboeleng pleaded not guilty to the offence.


Represented by senior lawyer Kgosietsile Ngakaagae, Reboeleng is now challenging a ‘confession ‘statement she earlier made. In what Ngakaagae termed to a trial within a trial, in the next mention on September 4th, Reboeleng is expected to take the stand as the only witness in the defence case.

The matter emanates from a report received by the police at around 10am on February 23, 2022 of a possible robbery. Minutes later the Main Mall was brought to a standstill as armed robbers dramatically hit Bank of Baroda, causing commotion and traffic congestion as they ran from the scene in a getaway car.

The police soon after received a tip off that the suspects were hiding at a house in Phased 2. The police and other law enforcement agencies surrounded the house for hours before gunfire was exchanged between them and the suspected robbers. During the incident, ten suspects died whilst only one female survived and was taken into custody.
