Police have launched a manhunt for five men who attacked and robbed two paramedics and a patient at knifepoint in Mogoditshane yesterday.

The mid-rescue robbery occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning as the medics were stabilising the patient.

According to a government press release, the paramedics from EMS, who were on duty on behalf of Princess Marina Referral Hospital, were attending to a patient in their vehicle when a group of five men attacked them. The attackers robbed them at knifepoint.

The paramedics were also assaulted before the men fled with valuables belonging to both the officers and the patient. During the attack, the men also vandalised the emergency vehicle.

“They smashed the sliding door windows and rear windows, and also broke the siren connection,” reads the statement. The thieves also stole the patient’s P100 and cellphones. The matter has been reported to the police, who have launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Meanwhile, acting on behalf of the hospital’s superintendent, Keemenao Sampisi revealed that the incident has led to disruptions in their services.
