Masisi sympathisers claim Kweneng Region :: Mmegi Online

A lobby list that was associated with Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi won all the six seats to control the Kweneng Region over the weekend.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Kweneng Region went to elections over the weekend at Dutlwe and Kgang Kgang defeated Motlhopi Leo for the position of chairperson. Leo was the incumbent chairperson while Kgang was the deputy secretary prior to the weekend tussle. Kgang is a well-known Masisi sympathiser while Leo is believed to be associated with friends of Jacob Nkate.

The former BDP secretary general, Nkate is currently the Botswana ambassador to Japan, and is expected to challenge Masisi for the presidency of the BDP in April 2017. Insiders at Kweneng Region said Kgang drew most of his support from Members of Parliament (MPs), chairpersons and secretaries of the eight branches.
