Few months after his retirement from active politics as Member of Parliament (MP), President Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed Yandani Boko as the new envoy of Botswana to South Africa (SA).
Boko's resignation from politics raised eyebrows with the latter citing mental health issues as the ground for leaving. News then circulated that Boko would possibly be appointed by Masisi for a position at SADC, but he has since been given a different position.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) wishes to announce that President Masisi has appointed Major General Mpho Mophuting and Yandani Boko as new envoys of the Republic of Botswana,” the statement from the ministry stated.
The two were appointed as new envoys in different countries with Boko set to go to the neighbouring country, SA. “Boko has been appointed Consul General designate of Botswana at the Botswana Consulate in Johannesburg, SA. He is a seasoned legal professional with a distinguished tenure as a Member of Parliament,” further reads the statement.
Meanwhile, Mophuting was appointed overseas at the United States of America (USA) as the ambassador designate. “Mophuting has been appointed Ambassador designate of the Republic of Botswana at the Embassy of Botswana in Washington DC, USA,” reads the statement.
The appointments are with immediate effect.
