The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary chief whip, Liakat Kablay says he is aware that a certain cabinet minister wants him to be stripped off his position. The Letlhakeng-Lephephe legislator said the senior minister is planning to take him down by lobbying colleagues to pass a motion of no confidence in him.

“The same minister who gave WeekendPost newspaper an interview is the one who raised a complaint against me during the BDP caucus last week. There is no one who made a comment after he spoke. I had requested that my duty as a chief whip be fully explained if some ministers or MPs do not want me to grant the media interviews,” Kablay said yesterday.

Kablay says the duty of the chief whip cannot only be to check if Parliament is forming a quorum or not. He says the responsibility of chief whip is to get answers about the behaviour of MPs, especially on what happens in Parliament.
