IEC has confirmed that voters registration books in Marobela have been stolen

BREAKING: Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has confirmed that voters registration books have been stolen from an officer based in Marobela village recently.

Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, the IEC spokesperson, Osupile Maroba said: “it’s true that a case of theft of voters’ registration books has been reported to the police and it’s a matter that is under investigation as we speak.”

He explained that some of the books were duly used whilst others were blank.

“The IEC is following up on those who have registered on the stolen books to come and re-register as the incident has rendered the first registration null and void,” Maroba told MmegiOnline. He added that the Commission wasn’t aware of the motive for the theft.

As a matter of fact, Maroba stated that those who have already registered would have to be followed up so that they register afresh as their details were not yet captured in the Commission system.
