The 2024 General Election will come with a new look, if the newly published Delimitation report is anything to go by. According to the recently released report, a few districts and constituencies will be renamed with one being phased off entirely

Of particular interest is the constituency of Mmathethe-Molabowabojang, which has been phased out and some villages infused into the new Goodhope-Mmathethe constituency. However, the new constituencies identified by the report are Mogoditshane which has been split into two being Mogoditshane East and West. Mochudi has also been divided into three constituencies being Kgatleng Central, Kgatleng East and Kgatleng West. The Maun constituencies have also been divided into three instead of just two being, Maun East, Maun North and Man West. “The Commission notes that the North West District has been divided into North West District and Okavango District. The newly established North West District has removed some localities from Okavango and Ngami constituencies and added them to Maun East and Maun West constituencies,” reads the report in part. As a result, the Commission has now taken the decision to Split Maun into three because the outer boundaries of these constituencies have been aligned to follow the boundaries of the newly created North West District. “Considering the vastness of the area, and the difficult terrain in some places coupled with high population warrants creation of an additional constituency,” further reads the report.

Okavango constituency has been split into two being Okavango West and East. Renaming has also resulted in a new name of Mmopane-Metsimotlhabe for the former Lentsweletau-Mmopane constituency. Delimitation is the process of dividing the country into constituencies and wards for the purposes of elections of persons to constituency seats in the National Assembly and of councillors to local authorities. As soon as constituencies have been delimited by the Delimitation Commission, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) divides each constituency into polling districts in consultation with and involvement of stakeholders comprising traditional leadership, local authorities, civil society and the general public. This exercise is carried out in collaboration with these primary stakeholders to provide accessibility of polling areas to the voting public.
