Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)'s primary elections (Bulela Ditswe) aspirants have been give five days to submit their applications.

As the highly anticipated primary elections draws closer, the party has requested all members who have expressed interest in contesting for the elections to submit applications to their branch committees. According to a memorandum written to all branches and regions, dated March 13, 2024 this applies to all members who had applied for Expression of Interest before November 2, 2023. All applications according to BDP secretary general Kavis Kario should be done on or before March 20, 2024.

This comes shortly after the ruling party revealed that it has doubled fees for members who want to participate in primary elections commonly. The new changes will see council candidates pay P5,000 from P2,500 whilst a parliamentary candidate is expected to fork out P10,000 from P5,000 to be eligible.

The BDP is expected to hold its primary elections in all the 61 constituencies starting this month. The branch committees is expected to start the vetting process as soon as they receive the applications.
