Kenny Konongwe s lesser charge of unlawfull wounding has metamorphosed to murder after his victim allegedly succumbed to the knife stabbings.

Konongwe who is also a prison warder based in Serowe appeared before Village senior Magistrate Tshepo Thedi on Thursday following a scuffle with the deceased and another at the Airport junction Mall in Gaborone. For his arraignment the 37-year-old was granted bail but was re-arrested recently and his charges have now been changed to murder.

His new charge sheet now reads, “The accused person Konongwe, on or about 23rd April, at Airport junction Mall in Gaborone, murdered Onkabetsse Kgamanyane by stabbing him with a knife causing him to sustain injuries which lead to his death.”

Extending his remand, Village Magistrate Thedi highlighted that now that the charge has changed, investigations were at an early stage and that the family of the deceased is still grieving.

Bank Gaborone has since released a statement confirming the incident citing, “Please be informed that there was an unfortunate incident of violence and assault at Airport junction Mall. The Peo Finance and Bank Gaborone staff members were not injured and are safe. However, the security officer for Bank Gaborone and Peo Finance branches and a member if the public were violently assaulted, leading to the untimely death of the latter.”

The case returns next week.
