An outbreak of fire at Kagisong Centre, BBS mall on Wednesday has cost businesses loss in trade as they have to wait for renovations to be carried out before the shops affected can reopen.

The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning in the upstairs storeroom of Sheet Street which trades in bedding. Shops had not yet opened at the time of the incident and fire fighters had to break into the ceiling to put out the fire.

Station commander at Broadhurst Police Station, Counsel Moyo said while they are yet to establish the cause of the fire, he suggested it may have been the geyser that triggered it. Close to seven shops had to move their stock out of the building because the smoke from the fire had clouded the shopping complex. The area manager of CB Stores, Nobantu Baatshwaana said they were moving their stock to their warehouse until the place is fixed.
