SEROWE: Police have charged the owners of well-known bar, Bridgeway, with operating outside of the stipulated hours, after festivities ran until midnight on New Year’s Eve, two hours past the allowed time.

In addition to operating outside of permitted hours, Serowe police superintendent, Poloko Oteng, said the owners of the bar are also facing charges of causing noise and nuisance as well as aiding and abetting another person to commit a crime.

In other incidents, the mood of celebrations for some in the community turned sour when nine people were charged with loitering and disorderly conduct.

Oteng said police observed that some people stayed out later than the 10pm closing time because of heavy rainfall. Police allowed these revellers to remain in their vehicles, while waiting for the rain to abate.

He also thanked bar owners who observed the closing time.
