Police have charged 44 drivers for drunken driving following an operation conducted in Palapye and Serowe on Friday and Saturday.

No2 District Officer Commanding, Superintendent Paul Oketsang said they started the operation in Palapye on Friday and in that one-day operation, they charged 25 drivers for drunken driving and 16 drivers for failure to provide breath. He said on Saturday, the operation was conducted in Serowe and 19 drivers were charged for drunken driving whilst 14 failed to provide insufficient breath, and two more drivers failed to provide breath.

Oketsang called for sober driving, pointing out that alcohol affects drivers in many aspects including their attitude, judgement, vigilance, and reaction time amongst others. “Despite losing more lives on the road, which mostly are alcohol-related, it is worrisome that drivers still have the habit of drinking and driving,” he said.
