A 51-year-old Sefhophe man from Malatsane ward has died weeks after he was allegedly assaulted by his 32-year-old cousin with a log, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred on March 8, 2026, when the now-deceased sustained severe head injuries and was hospitalised. He had reportedly been in and out of the hospital since the assault before succumbing to his injuries on Friday at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

Confirming the development, Botshabelo Police Station commander, Superintendent Sedisa Malefo, said the case has now been upgraded from grievous bodily harm to murder.
