BDF learning from the F-5 disaster

The Botswana Defence Force could be slow in acquiring the proposed South Korean made T-50 supersonic trainer, along with its FA-50 light attack variant jets, because they do not want a repeat of the F-5 and The Strike Masters mistake.

The BDF officials to this day live with the consequences of a purchase they made decades ago. The Strike Masters gave the BDF numerous problems and they had to be grounded for most of their term in the army after being purchased from Kenya.

Insiders say the biggest mistake was buying a whole fleet from one supplier and dealing with aircraft affected by the same fault.
