Batswana Join The World In The Cry Against Poverty

This Saturday Batswana joined millions of people around the world in the "Stand Up against poverty" campaign.

The campaign is one of many over a three-day period beginning September 15, 2010. The campaign calls on world leaders to meet their promises to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a set of eight ambitious targets aimed at significantly reducing global poverty and disease by 2015.

Around the world millions gathered at Stand Up events in workplaces, places of worship, campuses, stadiums and rallies to urge world leaders to eradicate extreme poverty.  This year's Stand Up events were in advance of a crucial UN MDG Summit slated for today (September 20th) through 22nd in New York. World leaders at the Summit include Botswana's Vice President Mompati Merafhe. The leaders will discuss progress made, lessons learned and a way forward for the lifesaving Millennium Development Goals.
