Batswana are against marital rape-BONELA

While many progressive countries have criminalised spousal or marital rape, Botswana is amongst 36 countries that still refuse to treat marital rape as a crime. The UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women also recommended that countries that still decriminalise marital should criminalise it. Mmegi Correspondent LEBOGANG MOSIKARE finds out why Botswana still decriminalises marital rape

FRANCISTOWN: In most African countries, it is a well-known fact from time immemorial that although culture has its advantages, it also has its negatives.

This, expert remark, is reinforced by the fact that in most African societies, Botswana included, men treat women and the girl child as sub-humans who should always obey without questioning instructions from men.
