Eighty-nine Botswana Defence Force (BDF) workers in the Fire Brigade have dragged the army before court over alleged unfulfilled promises pertaining to payment of allowances.

The 89, whose case has already been heard once at the High Court, say they have documented evidence that retired BDF Commander Major General Tebogo Masire committed to pay them 30 percent monthly allowances in 2010, calculated according to each's basic salary.

They claim that the promises remained unfulfilled even by the time Masire retired in July this year, leaving their hopes in tatters. In their papers, the soldiers claim that when they approached the BDF the response they got was that the final decision on the matter lies with the Department of Public Service Management (DPSM).
