Quartet Trio rocks Jazz Xchange

A newly formed straight-ahead jazz outfit, Quartet Trio treated music lovers to a night of jazz last weekend at President Hotel's Jazz Xchange.

Before a relatively small intimate crowd, the band launched into its opening set with the jazz blues anthem, All Blues, a tune made popular by American trumpeter, Miles Davis.

From the first lick, it looked set to be a jazz purist's gig.  Interpreting technically-demanding compositions from Charlie 'Bird' Parker to John Coltrane, the trio showed fluency with the jazz language - walking bass lines, constantly changing tonal centres and highly syncopated swinging rhythms.

BDP primaries leave a lot to be desired

The BDP as a party known to have ample resources has always held its primaries well in time, but this time around that was not the case. The first leg of the primaries was held last weekend, with the final leg being billed for the coming weekend. This time around, the BDP failed to shine in its primary elections.
