Cattle restocking exercise welcome

Government has announced its plan to replace hundreds of cattle that died in Zone 6 & & during and after the restocking exercise held this year. A sigh of relief can be breathed by many farmers who were beginning to doubt Government’s commitment to their cause, especially after tens of thousands of cattle were slaughtered in the region to eliminate foot and mouth disease.


The restocking of the cattle in May 2013 came at the wrong time according to the affected farmers in the region who feel that the timing of the exercise during a severe drought that would wipe away their newly introduced cattle. They also felt that government should have waited for the vegetation to recover so that the cattle could find a healthy environment that would sustain livestock farming.
