Position: Drill Rig Technical Coordinator - ExplorationSimolola Drilling Services (SDS) is a leading provider of drilling services in the exploration, mining, energy, and government sectors. SDS is a partnership between an internationally recognized drilling company, Mitchell Drilling International, and a 100% Botswana citizen-owned company. The company was founded by the respective shareholders in recognition and support of the Government of Botswana’s Citizen Economic Empowerment policy.In order to meet its contractual obligations and to provide efficient and innovative Drilling services in Botswana, SDS needs to urgently deploy the following personnel to fill up the vacancies below,A demonstration of extensive exploration drilling background and experience in deep-hole drilling, a minimum of 10 years of experience with the technical, mechanical, administrative, drilling, and operational requirements and logistics of large drilling operations in remote locations. A sound knowledge of drilling equipment such as Sandvik UDR 1500 Drill Rig’s and Sandvik DE 710’s is a must.All candidates must have a sound knowledge of Diamond Drilling Surface Core Methods, Reverse Circulation Drilling Methods, Deep Hole Drilling Methods, Mud rotation – LDD, Large diameter drilling and Blast Hole Drilling.Key Responsibilities:Drill Rig Fleet Technical Advisory - Advise and oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of Sandvik UDR1500, Hanjin D&B45, Thor 5000, Sandvik DE-710, Sandvik DR580, LF160, and Atlas Copco CT14 Drill Rigs. Ensure maximum rig availability and that all drilling activities meet safety and performance standards, optimizing deep hole drilling operations.Drilling Mechanics and Consumables - Manage and supervise drill rig mechanics and associated equipment onsite. Ensure a deep development of a combination of understanding of drill consumables, rock formations, and recommend the right tools and consumables that will maximize rig performance whilst aligning rigs to appropriate parameters.Train all technical and mechanical staff to interpret drill rig parameters and align them with the specific ground conditions.Ensure that rig availability remains above 90% through efficient maintenance and repair processes.Deep Hole Drilling Expertise - Leverage extensive experience in deep hole drilling to guide operations, utilizing best practices for high-risk, deep hole drilling in alignment with project goals and safety regulations.Safety and Risk Management - Lead the development of safety protocols for deep hole drilling operations, including conducting risk assessments for Human-machine interactions. Ensure all technical and mechanical personnel are trained and follow best practices when operating high-risk drilling equipment.Drilling Planning - Collaborate with project managers to design and implement detailed drilling plans that integrate technical and mechanical expertise.Utilize an understanding of exploration and asset management to maintain equipment at optimal capacity at all times.Ensure drilling strategies align with the geological requirements and are designed to maximize operational efficiency while minimizing downtime.Onsite Rig Mechanics Supervision: Oversee mechanics to ensure the smooth operation of hydraulic systems, engines, and other critical components of drill rigs. Coordinate with the mechanical team for timely repairs and preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.Drilling Alignment - Manage engineering aspects of the project to align with drilling operations. Utilize your drilling expertise to make strategic decisions that advance engineering, production, and exploration goals. Ensure that technical and engineering solutions support the broader objectives of the drilling program.Utilizing Industry Expertise for Decision Making - Apply your extensive background in the drilling industry to balance the needs of Mechanical, Technical, production, and exploration. Make informed decisions that improve operational efficiency, equipment usage, and project outcomes.Reporting and Communication: Provide detailed reports on drilling progress, equipment performance, safety assessments, and engineering developments.Qualifications and Skills Required:Certification: Valid Drill Rig Operator Certificate for Sandvik UDR1500, Sandvik DE-710, and LF160.Technical Knowledge: Expertise in the operation and mechanics of Atlas Copco CT14 Drill Rigs, including diagnosing mechanical issues and performing repairs.Principles of Mining: Strong understanding of mine value chain planning, mineral exploration, mining methods, and sustainable mining practices.Education: Mechanical Diploma /Drilling Fundamentals Diploma or equivalentManagement and Risk Assessment: Proven experience in risk assessment, safety management, and leading teams in both operational and mechanical aspects of deep-hole drilling.Engineering Alignment: Strong ability to manage the integration of engineering and drilling operations, ensuring efficient production and exploration processes.How to Apply:Qualified candidates are invited to submit their CVs, along with supporting documents and traceable references to:
