Mogoma Digitises Informal Package Delivery Routes
Botswana Innovation Platform Uses Existing Travel Routes to Improve Package Delivery
Mogoma
A locally developed digital platform is introducing a structured way to move packages by using travel routes that already exist instead of relying only on traditional courier systems.Mogoma connects individuals and small businesses needing to send parcels with drivers already travelling to the same destinations. By utilising trips that would happen anyway, the platform reduces idle transport capacity while offering an alternative delivery option, particularly on routes where courier services may be limited. The idea is inspired by the Setswana expression “Mo tshwarele gone hoo,” meaning taking advantage of an opportunity already in motion. Mogoma applies this principle by digitally matching packages with drivers’ pre-planned journeys.“There is already an informal culture of sending packages through buses, taxis and acquaintances,” said Otsogile Onalepelo, CEO and Lead Engineer at Recotech (Pty) Ltd t/a AiGeniX, the company behind Mogoma. “We are digitising this behaviour, adding structure and coordination to improve reliability and accessibility.”Users list packages on the platform, and drivers can browse and select parcels that fit their available space before arranging collection and delivery. The system is designed to improve transparency and predictability in everyday logistics. The model reflects a broader shift toward technology-enabled logistics that optimise existing resources rather than building new infrastructure. As digital adoption grows, platforms such as Mogoma demonstrate how local innovation can formalise informal systems and expand economic participation.
