KHWEE: The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) on Wednesday launched the 2024–2025 Rural Electrification Project, marking a major milestone in the country’s journey to provide universal electricity access by 2030.

The project, which was officially launched by the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Lefoko Moagi, aims to connect 20 new villages to the national grid and upgrade electricity infrastructure in 92 existing villages.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to drive economic development in rural areas by enhancing critical infrastructure.

We have all seen the pictures and heard the stories of broken windows, unreliable water and electricity, topped by classrooms that are not fit for proper learning. The establishment of the Education Infrastructure and Management Company Ltd (EIMC) signals that authorities are finally ready to take this problem seriously. We must commend the government for this initiative....
