The rapid growth of the synthetic diamond market in the past 20 years poses a serious threat to the Botswana diamond revenues, which currently constitute approximately 40 percent of total government coffers. Mmegi staffer, BRIAN BENZA peruses through a report by BIDPA researchers


First sold in the United States in 1958, synthetic diamonds has taken over the industrial diamond market and with the improvement in technology the technical and quality distinction between synthetic and mined stones is fast disappearing.
