DJ NT Base aims for the stars

He describes himself as a down to earth, ambitious and a very humble young man who does not let fame go to his head. Judging by the amount of love DJ NT Base (real name Ntebogang Sebopeng) receives whenever he is on the decks, one could be excused for thinking that he is full of himself. A chat with him face to face proves the opposite.

The 24-year-old says he fell in love with music at a tender age."Our family house was next to the busiest night club at Mahalapye, and every night I could not sleep because of the noise. With time, I got used to the music and I eventually became inspired to be a DJ," he said.  NT Base tells Showbiz that he started recording music on empty tapes and played them on two radios at home, trying to mix until he got the concept right. He perfected his skill until finally, he reached a stage where he was juggling both being a DJ and attending school as a form three student.

A couple of years later, the young lad met with DJ Lenty who he says has always been his mentor. "Lenty then introduced me to Dj'ing at another level and in 2007, I landed a DJ slot on Yarona FM on the then popular weekend night show called Kazilamlaobitsa hosted by  M'crenco. I got through it by being the longest dominating DJ on a weekly held live DJ battles where the public voted for their favourite," he says. This, he says, is how he gained recognition in Gaborone. He later teamed up with other well known DJs, Jam-n-I and P-stah, as VIB DJ's and signed under the label, VIB Music. The label released this trio's first album dubbed; VIB Unlimited Volume 1 in 2011, which did really well in the market.
