Kups resurfaces after five years

Local rhumba band Kups and Express Musica, formerly known as Kups and Bwasa Stars, has bounced back after five years.

The two men who have resurrected the group Keokopile 'Kups' Badumetse and Brahman Philemon Pedigree told Showbiz that they have been working on their new album Mmapula for the past three years.  They said the group disbanded after releasing two albums.  "The problem was that our manager was working somewhere else and it was difficult for him to manage our group as well as do his job," explained Kups.  He said that the first album did fairly well in terms of sales.

The new album, which is already in the market, has six tracks, most of them love songs.  "We are hopeful that the album will do better than its predecessor 'O se o leng sone', which was released in 2002.  It did not do well," Kups said.  He is confident that though the local market is saturated, their album would perform better because they play a unique music.  "Rhumba is different and it does not mean that when there are already players in the market we can't penetrate it.  People want a variety of music," explained Kups.  The two artists are proud that their songs are played in pure Setswana language, a thing they are confident will boost their sales.
