Africa's record holder: Letsile Tebogo

Letsile Tebogo made history on Sunday at the London Diamond League setting a new 200m African Record (19.50s). In the process, he also set a new national record.

However, as per procedure the record is yet to be ratified by World Athletics. The meet organisers should submit stadium certificate, wind speed, start reaction times, zero gun test results and anti-doping results of the athlete. The ratification process is expected to take almost three weeks. Tebogo's class act saw him receiving congratulatory message from Namibian veteran, Frankie Fredericks, who held the 200m record for 27 years.

Fredericks had clocked 19.68s during the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games final. "You have set a new standard of excellence and become an inspiration to many Africans," reads part of his Facebook post. Speaking to Mmegi Online, Tebogo's coach, Kebonyamodisa Dose Mosimanyane confirmed that they are awaiting for the 200m record to be ratified by World Athletics," It is procedure and normally takes a few weeks to be finalized," he said.
