Olympic 200m champion and World Athletics Male Athlete of Year 2024, Letsile Tebogo, continues to make history.

He became the first Motswana to be appointed De Beers Group global ambassador. As one of the first products of the collaboration, Tebogo will feature as the lead ambassador and central figure in a short film series, Talent Unearthed. The shooting of the series started on Saturday at the De Beers Global Sightholder Sales (DBGSS) offices in Gaborone. Another key element of the collaboration will see Tebogo and his team identify opportunities for investment in sports development in Botswana.

Speaking during a meet and greet session, which was also meant to welcome Tebogo in his new role, vice president of Corporate Affairs at De Beers Global Sightholder Sales, Otsile Mabeo, said the collaboration goes beyond typical partnership. Mabeo said the partnership is a celebration of shared values, highlighting the importance of hard work, community, and the transformative power of nurturing potential whether in the form of a rough diamond or a budding athlete. For his part, De Beers Group vice president, Paul Rowley said the primary objective of partnering with Tebogo was to promote the Botswana natural diamond story. He said it is De Beers Group’s commitment to unlock the potential of Botswana’s talent by leveraging the nation’s natural resources. Rowley also commended Tebogo for his exemplary dedication, discipline and hard work, which has been crucial to his success.
