The draw for the 2022 COSAFA Cup was held today in Durban at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium. Mpote told Mmegi Sport that the draw will assist Zebras as they prepare for the upcoming AFCON games. “It is a welcome draw and I am happy with it. We have tough AFCON matches we are to play against Libya, Tunisia, and Equatorial Guinea,” he said. Mpote said the plan is to reach the COSAFA Cup final as they did in 2019 and win the cup. He said if they fail to win the COSAFA Cup, they will focus on the performance of the team ahead of AFCON. The tournament, which runs from July 5 to 17, will once again feature last year’s beaten finalist, Senegal as the West African guest nation returns to try and turn silver into gold. Group B has Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, and Eswatini. Group A in Phase 2 of the competition has Madagascar, Zambia, South Africa, and Senegal. Group B has Namibia, which will play against the winner of Group A. The winner of Group B will face off against Mozambique.
