Teenage Mpote wants to focus on league

Nico United head coach, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote says his weekend defeat to Township Rollers in the Orange FA Cup is a blessing in disguise for his struggling side.

Nico missed on the chance to progress to the quarter finals of the FA Cup after suffering 1-0 defeat at the hands of Rollers. However, Mpote said the result presented an opportunity for his team to move out of the relegation zone. “I am happy with the performance of the team, (and) the attitude of the boys and to us our priority is the league. This cup would have delayed us but the practice we got from Rollers is good if we could continue this way,” Mpote said.

The former Zebras coach highlighted that he firmly believes that he can save Nico from relegation looking at the fixtures left. “The good part is that we are left with the teams that we are swimming with in the relegation zone. So we have to plan for those teams and win those games to eliminate them so that we move out from relegation,” he said. Out of 21 games played, Nico has only garnered 17 points and are rooted at the bottom of the league. They are three points away from safety.
