Township Rollers are said to be nearing the appointment of a new head coach following the departure of Mogomotsi 'Teenage' Mpote early this week.

Mpote was dismissed on Monday after leading the club in the first seven opening games of the season. Despite an impressive record of just one defeat, two draws and four wins, Mpote was deemed not good enough for the Rollers' project under the Tendai Sebata administration. MmegiSport has been reliably informed that Popa could bring their new man before the start of next week. It is a move that could affect the jobs of the rest of the Rollers' technical team. The Blues' technical bench includes Innocent Morapedi and Oarabile 'Wilshere' Seabo, who are serving as assistant coaches. The move may also affect goalkeeper coach, David Puso as well as Kenneth Dambe who serves as the performance analyst. This publication is further informed that the new Rollers' head coach is to bring his own technical team that includes an assistant coach and a goalkeeper coach thus throwing a dark cloud over the futures of some of the coaching staff at Rollers. Serving as an interim head coach, Morapedi led Rollers to a 4-1 win over Extension Gunners in the midweek as the Blues keep in chase with the leading pack. Speaking to MmegiSport, Morapedi did not want to divulge the purported technical team changes at the club but he admitted that they are not indispensable.

"There are some administrative issues that we cannot answer to on behalf of the management. In fact, whoever decides whether we are going or not, (then) why should we cry? We have had the head coach gone (and) we are not irreplaceable. Changes would come and nobody likes changes but some come directly and affect you," said Morapedi. Morapedi and company are said to have been given a two-game assignment, starting with the Wednesday tie against Gunners and the weekend's away clash with TAFIC. "Maybe we are here trying to save our jobs, whether it would be too late or not. But we could not sabotage the situation; we need to play our game. I think personally I have been there before, it is part of my skin. We have to accept what we cannot change. I cannot wish Monday to be a Tuesday, no, and whatever unfolds it is up to the situation," said Morapedi.

Child protection needs more than prevailing laws

The rise in defilement and missing persons cases, particularly over the recent festive period, points not merely to a failure of policing, but to a profound and widespread societal crisis. Whilst the Police chief’s plea is rightly directed at parents, the root of this emergency runs deeper, demanding a collective response from every corner of our community. Marathe’s observations paint a picture of neglect with children left alone for...
