FIFA president, Gianni Infantino has sent a congratulatory message to Gaborone United for lifting this season’s Botswana Premier League title.

It is customary for a FIFA president to send out messages of congratulations to national champions. “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Gaborone United SC for having been crowned 2021–2022 champions of Botswana,” Infantino said in a letter addressed to the Botswana Football Association president, Maclean Letshwiti. “This title could not have been achieved without the entire team’s hard work, passion, and dedication and everyone at the club can be very proud. Please extend my congratulations to everybody involved in this great achievement.” GU won their first title in 13 years when they piped down rivals, Township Rollers in what was an exciting race, which almost went all the way to the wire.
