Pirates in GU gun-sight

Gaborone United (GU) will have to put behind their disappointing run in the be MOBILE Premier League when they host South African giants, Orlando Pirates in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League at the UB Stadium tomorrow.

The reigning champions are having a dreadful run in their title defence and would have to be at their best to get their CAF campaign off to a flier. But they face a formidable task against Pirates, the 1995 African Champions.

The Soweto giants have the enviable record of being the only southern African side to win the continent’s most prestigious club competition. GU can find consolation in the fact that Pirates have not been at their best in the league, and have a low scoring rate. Pirates last won the South African league title in 2001 and have scored a meagre 24 goals in 27 matches. This is a poor return of less than a goal per game.
