The annual Lady Khama Charitable Trust Half Marathon dubbed ‘RUN21’ takes place at the Fairgrounds in Gaborone on Sunday morning with over 1000 runners expected.

The marathon has been divided into three categories according to the distances covered by the competitors.

The 21km, being the longest race, starts at 6am from the Fairgrounds, past Riverwalk mall, all way to the Gaborone Game Reserve then past the SSG and BDF camps then back to the starting point.  The 10km race route covers the area between Fairgrounds, Riverwalk mall, BDF camp and the University of Botswana (UB).  The shortest race, the 5km fun race, goes around the Fairgrounds.

The organisers of the event confirmed that over 1000 runners have registered for the event.

The registration closed on Wednesday evening.  The organisers said the main purpose of the race is to encourage wellness among the public and help seasoned runners improve their time.  Runners have been told not to worry about wild animals as the route passes through the Gaborone Game Reserve. The route does not cover the area where animals are kept.

At the time of going to print, no names of international runners were confirmed. The organisers said all proceeds from the event, will go towards support of vulnerable women and children across Botswana.
