Boxing star Oteng Oteng has made history by becoming the first beneficiary of the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) Athletes' Incentives Scheme, pocketing P50, 000 for his recent exploits at the 2012 Africa Boxing Olympic qualifiers.

Oteng won gold in Casablanca, Morocco, last month to become the only boxer to qualify for the London 2012 global showpiece. The revamped performance based incentives scheme launched earlier this year came into effect at the beginning of April. Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) President Michael Moroka received the cheque for Oteng who is already in Cuba to start preparations for the Olympics.

Handing over the cheque, BNSC chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng congratulated the 22-year-old for being the first athlete to win the country a first continental gold this year. He said the incentive scheme was introduced as a way of encouraging athletes to work extra hard as well as to show recognition for their efforts when representing the country.
