Both Botswana boxers taking part at this year's World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, Mmoloki Nogeng and Oteng Oteng fell in the preliminary stages of the championships.

Nogeng, who began his campaign against a familiar opponent in Australia's Luke Jackson, whom he defeated at the Commonwealth Games recently, could not repeat it this time and the Aussie had the last laugh on Saturday afternoon. Nogeng, who won Botswana silver at the All Africa Games recently was out-pointed 19-8 by Jackson in their 60kg bout.  The Aussie dominated the rounds, leading 5-1 at the end of the opening round, and then

proceeding to take the second round 7-4. In the third round the Botswana boxer trailed 7-3, while the fourth and final round was a draw. All Africa Games Gold Medallist Oteng Oteng on Sunday bowed out of the World Boxing Championships after he was defeated 18-5 by  Misha Aloyan of Russia in the 2nd round. Oteng had earlier defeated Turkish boxer, Selcuk Eker, 17-15 in his first bout.
